Manchester United eyeing up move for Benfica left back Alex Grimaldo.

Manchester United are lining up a move for Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo after club scouts watched the former Barcelona left back star and score in a 4-0 win over Feirense on Sunday night.
Grimaldo, 21, has been linked to rivals Manchester City but United had representatives at the Estadio da Luz keeping tabs on the in-demand defender who curled in a brilliant stoppage-time free-kick to seal a comfortable victory in Lisbon.
The Spanish youth international has a huge £51million buy-out clause in his contract but his prospective suitors believe Benfica could be open to a more-reasonable transfer fee.
Scouts from Juventus, Valencia and Middlesbrough were also present in Lisbon on Sunday, with the Italian champions believed to be in the market for a left back.
Grimaldo only joined Benfica in a £1.25m deal from Barcelona in January and the Spanish champions hold the rights to a percentage any future transfer fee.
The left back, who can also play in a more-advanced role, has impressed in Portugal’s Primeira Liga to attract the attention of Europe’s top clubs.
Sunday was his ninth appearance of the season, having started all of Benfica’s matches including Wednesday’s Champions League defeat by Napoli.
