Calf trouble won't keep James Rodriguez out of Colombia duty

An overdue call-up to the Real Madrid starting XI was quickly scrubbed off James Rodriguez's record for the season and yet a calf problem won't rule him out of Colombia's World Cup qualifiers.
Mateo Kovacic took the attacking midfielder's place on the pitch as Los Blancos struggled to a 1-1 draw with Eibar on Sunday after James felt discomfort in the warm-up.
Tests revealed a grade one injury to the calf's soleus muscle, in spite of which the player's country have persisted in their selection of Rodriguez for matches with Paraguay and Uruguay.
Madrid must now release the 25-year-old for the long trip to South America ahead of Friday's game, before which Rodriguez will undergo further tests with Los Cafeteros, who sit fourth in CONMEBOL's World Cup qualifying.
